Rock the Green Festival Returns September 17th 2016
PRESS RELEASE: Rock the Green announces third festival for September 2016 Featuring new venue and focus on freshwater
MILWAUKEE – SEPT. 17, 2015 – Rock the Green, an outdoor music festival achieving near-zero waste, announced today it will bring renowned bands and award-winning environmental sustainability back for its third festival onSaturday, Sept. 17, 2016.
Next year’s event will be held at the Reed Street Yards, on Freshwater Way, one of Wisconsin’s first eco-industrial parks, and will focus on water conservation. In addition to creating near-zero waste, the festival is reinforcing The Water Council’s work to position Milwaukee as a global leader in freshwater sustainability.
“Rock the Green takes an innovative approach to engaging community members to protect our environment,” said Rich Meeusen, co-founder, The Water Council and CEO of Badger Meter. “It’s important to celebrate our great city, but it’s even more important to preserve it. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Rock the Green to bring water conservation to the forefront of discussion.”
In the first two years, Rock the Green garnered near-zero waste results with over 90% of the waste being composted, recycled or repurposed.

The festival’s 2012 sustainability efforts earned it recognition as one of the greenest music festivals in the world by UK-based A Greener Festival Organization. The 2016 festival will showcase companies that are innovators in freshwater and sustainability and offer guests free water stations, reusable water bottles and food waste alternatives.

The festival’s past bands include: Imagine Dragons, The Fray, Metric, Fitz & the Tantrums, Ben Folds, Third Eye Blind, Switchfoot and more. The festival was last held in 2012 and drew 9,000-plus attendees.
