Rock the Green Gains Momentum
Veolia Environmental Services Rocks the Green with Sponsorship
The Midwest’s first near-zero waste music festival building support from environmental, corporate, celebrity and government influencers
MILWAUKEE, WI–Rock the Green, the Midwest’s first near-zero waste music festival, announced today a title sponsor and myriad endorsements from across the public spectrum. Rock the Green is a nonprofit with a results-based model for engaging consumers and communities about environmentally sustainable practices and healthy lifestyles.
Veolia Environmental Services is the title sponsor of the event. The company will play an active role in onsite waste reclamation, composting and recycling. Veolia will also showcase emerging green technologies, eco-friendly educational programs and tips on reducing your carbon footprint. The solid waste division (Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc) of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis., with operations in 12 states, the Bahamas and Canada.
“Rock the Green provides that rare opportunity to effectively showcase specific ways people can integrate sustainable living habits into their everyday routines,” said Jim Long, president and chief executive officer of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. “As a company that believes in walking the talk when it comes to reducing waste, we’re very happy to engage with the community on this important subject.”
A key differentiator of this event is the application of environmental and process improvement methods to the event itself, in order to drive measurable outcomes. These include:
- ISO 14000 Plan Do Check Act (PDCA);
- Six Sigma Continuous Improvement; and
- Calculating Environmental Analytics.
The event will take a contemporary approach to festival planning by implementing the following:
- The festival will be powered by clean energy using a combination of renewable sources (biomass, solar and wind) and bio-diesel powered generators;
- All disposable items will be replaced with their compostable equivalents;
- An onsite Green Team will manage waste recovery stations throughout the grounds; and
- Free water stations using municipal water will replace the sale of water bottles.
The addition of Veolia Environmental Services to Rock the Green caps a run of support from local and national influencers that include Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Badger Meter CEO and Milwaukee Water Council Co-Chair Rich Meeusen and Emmy Award-winning musician Peter Buffett.
“We’re thrilled that Veolia is our title sponsor, and at the tremendous amount of positive feedback we’re receiving as people find out about this event,” said Lindsay Stevens Gardner, executive director, Rock the Green. “It’s a validation of what we thought when we started Rock the Green— that people not only want to improve the environment around them, but are open to exploring and adopting new ideas and best practices as well,” she added.
Rock the Green is currently working to finalize its entertainment lineup, which will be announced by the end of May. Rock the Green will take place from 11 a.m.—6 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Veterans Park on the shores of Lake Michigan.
